Bibury, Swan Hotel c.1955

More about this scene
William Morris described Bibury as the most beautiful village in England, and it has charmed visitors throughout the ages with its quintessential Cotswold character and composition. The Coln runs alongside the village street, where ducks waddle along the tops of low stone walls and spotted trout nose their way through the waving waterweeds. The Swan Hotel looks across its own island garden to one of the largest trout farms in the country. Parts of the hotel date back to 1640, and would have been known to the famous and infamous, royalty and riff-raff, in the heady days of Bibury Races, frequented in their day by Charles II and Nell Gwynne and George IV.
