More about this scene
The monument apologises to Bishop Hooper, in a sense. Contemporary reports of Bishop Hooper's execution refer to his tongue sticking out of his mouth after his forty-five minutes of agony, as if he was still trying to speak just one last word. This monument was formerly inaugurated in 1863, and stands at the end of Westgate Street in St Mary's Square.
