More about this scene
Walter Froucester completed the cloisters after 1381. Abbot Horton had started the work, and John Boyfield carried it on. It is one of the most perfect structures of its kind in existence. Froucester's imagination and dedication, with the expert assistance of Gloucester's finest masons, leaves us in no doubt that this was the summit of his life's work. Imagine the monks as they retired to meditate in this area after dinner until evensong. In the northern gallery is the monks' lavatory, with a gently tapered duct for easy flow.
