My dad was taken suddenly from our home one day when I was at school. I returned home to find my elder sisters and mother in a state of distress. They told me daddy was in hospital and that we would all have to have an x ray and injections. A man in white overalls came and sprayed all my dad's clothes and also his cup and plates. Mr Evans did the same thing with our class - would have been about 1958? I don't remember who the royal was and I don't think they paused. Just a fly-by I think - but certainly more exciting than arithmatic!
My great-grandfather lived in Burchett Cottage, Millfield. Can anyone tell me where it was or if it's still there?
I was around 5 years of age when my family moved into Mousehill Stores, which would make it 1973. We lived there until I was 9 years old and I still have great memories.
I remember steep wooden stairs from the kitchen to an open room above the shop this area was another store room and I can remember hooks still hanging from the beams. The hatch for deliveries still worked and opened out towards the the main road ...see more
I spent nine months at this hospital from August Bank holiday 1954 till April 1955 after having a mass x-ray earlier that year. I was only 17 years of age at that time and the photo brings to life the time I spent there along with the memories, and not all bad by any means.

Further to Mr. Mike Taylor's story about being taken to see HM Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother passing through Milford on her way to King Edward's School at Witley. I was a pupil at King Edward's during the time of her visit, and whereas Mr. Taylor's story implies there may have been a number of visits by Her Majesty, I only recall the one, which I believe to have been in 1956. In 1944 a bomb dropped not too far from our home in East Barnet, Hertfordshire, so Mum and I went to stay with her Mum and Dad, Alice and Bill Tulett at 3 Chapel Lane, Milford (now No.10 I think) where Mum was born in 1907. Bill used to be the local baker and worked for a Mr E A Fullbrook but was retired by then as he would have been 78 in 1945. Next door lived Mrs Collins, the other side I think were called ...see more
In 1962 I was in Cledwyn Evan's class at the primary school. In the Summer terms Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother used to visit King Edward's School in Witley, and Mr. Evans led his class to the roundabout to see her go by. He was enthusiastically ragged about it by the other teachers! We all stood just by the walnut tree on the left of the picture. We waited, but not for long. This is Church Road, 200 yards north of the church, not Haslemere Road. The building on the left of the photo is now a club. In the 1950's we children used to call it "The Wobbly Man's Club".
This picture is of Mousehill Green, Milford. You haven't a title for the picture, so I thought I'd let you know. I remember it from 1953 onwards, but this picture obviously predates that. The green was often used for fairgrounds. The shop by the road was the Delicatessen, now a craft shop I think, not sure though.
