Newbury, The Town Bridge 1956

More about this scene
The Town Bridge was designed by James Clarke at a cost of £700. It is of a single span with stone dressings and balustrades. Its strength was put to the test during the Second World War when tanks and other heavy vehicles were constantly crossing it. Before it was built, a wooden bridge, which has shops upon it, spanned the river here. The original bridge collapsed in 1623 and its replacement was swept away by floods 103 years later.
