Nostalgic memories of Parkstone's local history

Share your own memories of Parkstone and read what others have said

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our web site to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was when the photographs in our archive were taken. From brief one-liners explaining a little bit more about the image depicted, to great, in-depth accounts of a childhood when things were rather different than today (and everything inbetween!). We've had many contributors recognising themselves or loved ones in our photographs.

Why not add your memory today and become part of our Memories Community to help others in the future delve back into their past.

I lived in 54 Albert Road, Parkstone, from 1962 until 1972. My paternal grandparents lived at 56 Albert Road, next door. They'd lived there from the 1930's onwards. The back garden was very big and long, plus sloped downhill. I used to hurtle down the path in my Triang pedal car and later a Triang pedal go kart, as a kid, which was always great fun. I went to Heathlands Infants School, from 1966 until 1970 and ...see more
I was born at 150 Rossmore Road in 1956. I attended Heatherlands school from 1960 to 1965. Classmates I remember include:- Alistair Rogers, (later attended Poole Grammar School) Andrew Spicer, (Lived off the Branksome Recreation Ground) Janet Matthews, (lived in Harford Road, no. 2? Brother Neil?) Kenneth Gale, (later attended Poole Grammar School) Eric Love, Christine ...see more
I was born opposite J Wareham's corner shop (on the corner of Fortescue Road) and went to Heatherland's Junior School in Cromwell Road. Where Cromwell Road joined Albert Road there was a cobblers on one corner and a second hand shop (Wilf's?) on the other. Heatherlands (teachers: Mr Asprey, Simmonds, Mrs Jones, Bond and headmasters TT Taylor followed by Gerald Swan) has gone and is now houses. Subsequently I went to ...see more
I arrived in Parkstone "Heavenly Bottom" in 1950 (ish) after travelling all around Britain as dad was in the army. We came to England from India where my parents served in the army in 1945 to live in Glencoe Road for a while, then moved around the country before settling in Wharfdale Rd when I was 5 years old. I went to Wesley Hall Infants School, Heatherlands Junior School, Martin Road Primary School then on to ...see more
I was born and brought up in Connaught Crescent near Branksome Recreation Ground. I attended Martin Road Junior School and Kemp Welch Secondary Modern from 1959 to 1963. I have very fond memories of taking ballroom dancing lessons near the gasometer (demolished many years ago). Every year the recreation ground was used by a travelling fair company. Is there anyone out there that remembers me?
My grandparents used to live here in the early 50's, the story goes that my mother was lodging next door and that is how they met. My grandparents are the Preece family, my mother was Dulcie Sherwood and she was staying at Mrs Monkton. Love to know more!
My father worked in quality control at Millers for a couple of years in the early 1960s. He loved singing and one of my earliest memories is of him singing in what must have been the loading/packing bay. It had good acoustics! I was two or three years of age.
Millers Pies, are they still made in Sterte, Poole?
I was born in a flat on Ashley Road above Selbys Garage, they used to sell petrol with a pump that used to swing out across the pavement and fill the cars on the road. I used to go to the Regal cinema on Saturday mornings and afterwards spend some money buying marshmallows in Woolworths or getting chips or scraps from a chipshop off Albert Road. We moved to Wallisdown and I went to Saint Aldhelm's School and moved to ...see more
