More about this scene
Note the house halfway down the street on the left with six windows and a central pedimented doorcase. This is Unicorn House, No 28, which had its moment in history. In December 1688, a plaque informs us, William of Orange, the Dutch ruler, stayed the night here on his way to London from Torbay, having been offered the crown in place of the Catholic James II. He was the guest of the house's owner, Thomas Medlycott, the Recorder of Abingdon.
