More about this scene
Frith's photographer was standing beyond Halford's, looking east towards the river bridge. Burford Bridge is on the right, its wide 1927 main arch flanked by rebuilt medieval ones. Beyond the boat sheds is the Nag's Head on the Thames, as the pub is now named. The island is now laid out as a private park, and much better managed that in the period when this view was taken.
