Alnmouth, The Beach c.1955

More about this scene
For years Alnmouth has been noted for its sands; many of these holidaymakers would have taken a constitutional walking along the beach to Warkworth Castle. Had you been standing on the beach on a certain day in 1779, you might have seen the American warship 'Bonhomme Richard', commanded by John Paul Jones, cruising just off the mouth of the Aln. Jones fired his 68 lb carronade at the old church, but missed. The cannon ball hit the ground and bounced along before smashing into the end of a farmhouse.
