Nostalgic memories of Baildon's local history

Share your own memories of Baildon and read what others have said

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our web site to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was when the photographs in our archive were taken. From brief one-liners explaining a little bit more about the image depicted, to great, in-depth accounts of a childhood when things were rather different than today (and everything inbetween!). We've had many contributors recognising themselves or loved ones in our photographs.

Why not add your memory today and become part of our Memories Community to help others in the future delve back into their past.

My name is Trevor Jackson, and I was a resident at the Langley Residential. I can recall being there with Carol Baker, Gerald Peel,Graham Ellis, Susan Lunn, and a few more that I can recall. I would very much like to hear from anyone who was there the same time ...see more

Especially enjoyable was a whole variety of outward bound pursuits lead by Mr Cogan who took us ...see more

My sister was employed as a nurse?? at this BIG house around 1955/56. One Christmas the management invited me via my sister Beryl Carter to play my trumpet for all the children many with heart problems. I slept overnight and had a great time as it was Christmas Eve. I remember I had to catch the bus home on my own from Shipley to Greengates  because my sister was on duty that Christmas day.
My name is Steve Gill and I lived at the Langley Residential School in Baildon from 1961 to 1962. If anybody remembers me could they please get in touch. I remember a good mate called John Laycock and a girl called Sandra. The Staff were mainly nurses and we had a school teacher who taught us music and made sure everybody participated in her favourite sport which was archery. We used to have trips out and I clearly remember visiting York and Whitby.
Being born in 1928 and born in Rose cottage on Brook hill, low Baildon, it is a delight to see all the photos of Baildon, have not been back there for quite some time, but memories are refreshed with the photos. lived at 19 Station road untill the first day of WW2 moved into a counsil house on cliffe Avenue, was away from there for several years serving in the Royal Navy, but loved to return there on leave, left good old Baildon to emigrate to the USA, in 1957 and returned many times to visit.
