More about this scene
Longhole is the name given to a curiously-shaped channel, bordered by the north-easterly arm of the North Breakwater, which leads inland towards the central pier. The man standing on the jetty, in the right-hand middle ground inland of the lamp-post, gesticulates with his left arm as he addresses the small group seated in front of him; they appear to be listening attentively.
