V2 Rocket Hatley Ave - a Memory of Barkingside.

I was at Gearies when the rocket fell in Hatley Ave. We lived at no 9 and it was on a Monday (washing day) and the replacement windows that we had(because they were blown out when the V1 dropped in Dr Barnardos behind us) fell on my mum in the kitchen. She was not hurt because they were not glass.
I understand that the V2 fell on the back door step of the house in our Ave and the lady there was hanging out the washing at the time and all they found I believe her only hand.

In June 2014 I posted a similar article under the heading V2 dropped on Hatley Ave.

We lived at 39 Hastings Ave, almost directly behind the site where the V2 came down. My mother was seriously injured. I too was at Gearies school and will never forget being given the news towards the end of the lunch break.

A further memory is of visiting the site near Gants Hill after a German plane was brought down in March 1944.
