More about this scene
This is an early view of the bridge from the town side. Billy Moore's Boat Statoin (known to the local children as 'Noah's Ark') has still to make its appearance. Beyond the bridge, the sailing ship mast on the left is as Westacott's shipbuilding yard; those on the right are tied up at Barnstaple Quay. A small transom-sterned barge is beached by the slipway. This photograph is dated c1874, as the railway viaduct is seen complete in the view.
