Belmont Road

A Memory of Belmont.

Hi, my name is Maryanne, myself and my brother Christopher spent most of our childhood in Belmont road, during the sixties, and early seventies we stayed with my Grandmother who lived at no. 2 Belmont rd, Olive Woods was my grandmother, she worked as a baker in the bakery for years and also cleaned the Drs surgery in the evening. My grandmother lived next door to Mr & Mrs Luxford who had an aviary, and every time we arrived at my grandmothers Mrs Luxford came straight round and collected us to go and look at all the birds. I remember playing on the downs near the old Hospital, and also up the Avenue, with the Ayres children. My grandmother was the most loveliest women ever, we used to go to Battersea Easter parade every year. I remember playing down by the railway station in a grate big pile of sand where the builders had started building, the bakers was just across the road from my grandmothers ,we used to go to the side entrance every morning and get a fresh cake at Easter it was always a hot cross bun that memory will never leave me. I remember going into Sutton to see Father Christmas in Shiners, My brother got a polar bear and I got a china tea set, Christmas in Belmont was great all the shop were decorated with shiny things and I thought it was the best in the world as a child. I would love to go back to the sixties in Belmont as those were the best days.
