A Selection of Memories from Bethersden

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our website to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was, prompted by the photographs in our archive. Here are some from Bethersden

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

I am researching the JARVIS family for a relative. I know the family were there from at least 1800 and John and wife Harriott are buried in the churchyard. Are there any Jarvis residents there now, or any descendents.
Hi, my name is Yvette (maiden name was Beaney), does anyone remember my nan and granddad, Ernest and Cissy Beaney, who ran the village shop that has now been turned into a house? My dad Don and his brother Lionel did local deliveries from the shop, there was a cottage at the back of the shop where I lived with my parents for a while. I was very young when they left Bethersden but can remember being in the shop with my nan and visiting some of her friends.
Very fond memories of Bethersden. I lived I Meadow House, of which you can see the front hedge of here on the left of this picture, just beyond the telegraph pole, in the mid to late 70's. I went to the village school there for a short while and attended Sunday school at St Mary's . I remember the smell of the Hops very well and the woods which we used to play in. Happy times.
I am searching for any references or memories relating to the LOVELACE family I am told there was a Lovelace Place and a Lovelace Chapel in the Roman Catholic church. If any person has any such knowledge, please contact me via this site.
