I Remember Old Bishy Beach And The Chip Shop

A Memory of Bishopstoke.

Yes I remember getting chips from the chip shop when Mr and Mrs Pellerade had it - I knew Sandra and she had an older brother, Maurice. My friend, Sally Yarnold, lived just behind there in a cottage.
We would often go paddling at Bishy beach at Riverside, but our main bathing place was at the Lloyd, where we would also take a jam jar on a string and catch minnows.

We used to climb the yew tree at the old churchyard - it was ancient THEN. Also loved the rec and going on the Giant Stride, which the big boys used to make go higher and higher and make all the girls scream. The rose garden was lovely too and we would love to do roly poly down the slope.

My friends were Judith Hutchinson (Edward Avenue), Heather Hall (Drake Road). Judith lived next door to Avis and Janice Punker. We used to play in the "planny", the plantation just behind Edward Avenue and, of course, up the woods. There used to be big sand/brick pit where Rogers Road is now. I lived in Stoke Park Road. People from my road were Derek Lister, Stephen Faithfull, Alan Wheeler (in the very early fifties) and then Julie Denton and Barbara LeMar. Keith Gowans lived further up near the woods and David Trill down the road nearer the church. I also had a friend called Janice Hillier who lived in St Mary's Road.

Sometimes I wish I could just turn back the clock so that I could be there, in that time, once again. Happy days.
It would be wonderful to have a reunion. Could we manage it? I see a lot of these are old, so maybe people have given up on this site. But if anyone reads this please drop me a note.
