More about this scene

Just as in B439018, much has changed in this view. Central Park ran from Queensway to the back of Western Road, whose c1900 houses can be seen in the distance. In the 1950s it was a typical town centre park with seats, walks and flower beds, but all this changed when the Leisure Centre arrived in 1971-76, with its pyramidal pool building and large sports hall. This area is now the car park and grass margin to the rear service access road.

Robert Henry Batty Raf Bletchley
I have received details of my father's RAF service (actually some years ago) to find he was stationed at RAF Bletchley. But I know nothing at all about the place and I have found it difficult to find a good resource. Sadly, my father died in 1977 long before I was even more than slightly aware of his service. Happy Days From Lesley Rothwell (Steel)
I lived in Bletchley from 1959 to 1964 I lived in Caenarvon crescent and remember the cattle market , the old RAF camp St Mary's church where my two younger brothers were christened, the Shoulder of Mutton pub was there then and I often walked past. I went to Chestnuts combined school then Wilton secondary school. I don't remember Chestnuts being called that when I was there. I loved going on the cattle market even though the smell was terrible.

Was'nt in the WAAF, bit too young, but I was at Bletchley Park in 1950/51, with the Ministry of Aviation, training to be a Teleprinter Op before going to Birdlip Radio Station, and then Croydon Signals Centre. We went one evening to see a production of 'The Desert Song' performed by local RAF personnel, in the village (?) hall at the entrance to the Park. Shoulder Of Mutton
How interesting to read other people's memories, although I do not recognise any of the names. I lived in the old Shoulder of Mutton from about 1952 until 1964 while my parents were the tenants, they took over from my paternal grandparents. Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
