Ah Those Were The Days

A Memory of Bournemouth.

we moved to Montgomery ave in 1949 I remember when long rd estate was being built, we used to follow the Barber Green machine around because of the brilliant finiish of the tarmac roads.they were ideal for our roller skates. anyway to cut a long story short we were skating down hill and all the lads crouched down (I presumed for more speed) I crouched down and my cycling cape went under the skate wheels throwing my face into the tarmac.i lost all my front teeth ,a lady came out of one of the house , saw the mess I was in and cried her eyes out.my mother went bonkers and threw the skates in the dustbin never to be seen again.i also remember staying out all night in the supposedly haunted house in brooke road (Gullivers) also bird nesting in cuckoo woods, I don't know if the woods are still there I .remember that the Stadden family (of punch and judy fame) lived opposite us for a short while, and I am sure that some members of the bollsons lived there on and of as well. In my youth I spent many a long night at the end of Bollsons jetty by my self fishing, they used to remove most of the board-walk in the autumn to stop people using the jetty,(But it did not bother me) it was only the fact that I was looking for information about the jetty that I stumbled across your blog Regards G Pym.
