Bramhall Primary 1944 48
A Memory of Bramhall.
My years at the primary were 1944-1948, after which it was King's Macc until 1957. Mr Fox was certainly familiar with the palms of my hands, probably one or two other parts of my anatomy too. Other than Fox, the only teachers I remember were a Miss(Mrs?) Bardsley and a young ex RAF guy whose name escapes me, although to this day I still remember his technique for brushing teeth: He may even have been the father of one of my classmates (Diana Felthouse perhaps), but maybe that's simply because I fancied her! Come on... we were only 5 or 6 years old! The little shop opposite the school sold things like liquorice root and sherbet. My sister, Jan, and I, walked to school each day from where we lived, opposite Carrwood Rd. She was always (still is) a year or two ahead of me and far too clever to fall foul of the establishment. Somewhere I have a class photograph of us all sitting in front of the building, gazing vacantly at the cameraman. Those old photo's bring back memories, the Old Rec (Lumb Ln?), Tudor, Hoyles, steamy dancing classes up Benjamin Fold and later, almost blowing up the garage opposite Frankland's toy shop at the bottom of Moss Ln. Hey ho.
