Travelling from Devon, my parents stayed at this hotel when they were starting me at Cranleigh School. I remember scented gardens. In 2025 the scent of a particular plant still evokes in me a vague apprehenson.
My uncle, Tom Gordon, was the owner of the hotel from the 1950s to his death in 1966. I visited several times over those years, the first time in about 1953. For me it was a magical place with magnificent grounds to explore and many places of interest round about. My Grandmother lived there for a few years too.
