More about this scene
Above The Forester's Arms' door is a sign for Cheltenham Ales, which is a brand name with a long lineage. The Cheltenham Original Brewery took over Gardner's Brewery in 1888, and in 1897 it swallowed up the rival Cheltenham Steam Brewery. Over the next three decades it bought out other brewers in Nailsworth, Stow-on-the-Wold, Northleach, Gloucester, Wickwar and Evesham. Then in 1945 the Hereford & Tredegar Brewery was acquired, and the name changed to Cheltenham & Hereford Breweries Ltd; in 1959 it merged with Stroud Brewery. Whitbread's acquired this business in 1966.
