When there was snow on the ground in the 60s people used to hair down the common on anything they could find to sit on. I don't know how many people carried on off the Common and landed on the road as there was nothing to stop them. Scarry looking
back. I went on to work at the Collony and then Chalfont Hospital.
We found an old bike that had no chain and no brakes. Every day after school we would get the bike out of the gorse, where we had hidden it, and take it in turns to free wheel down this slope. Then push it back up and someone else would have a go. I would have been seven.
