More about this scene

At the bottom end of Fore Street, on the right, is another Elizabethan building: the old Grammar School of 1583, with its tall porch bay, now part of Chard School. The street curves uphill with a vigorously-flowing water channel alongside the road edge of each pavement. On the left, beyond the Methodist Church, is a house of 1900 with very early and rare concrete interlocking roof tiles set in a diagonal pattern.

A Selection of Memories from Chard

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our website to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was, prompted by the photographs in our archive. Here are some from Chard

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

Hello My mum and her family were evacuated to Chard in WW2. My uncle and aunt are always talking about their time there and I would love to hear from anyone also with memories. Kind regards Sandra
