More about this scene

Chard High Street's pavements were built wide to hold market stalls. The clock tower on the left was added to the Town Hall in 1834. The refurbished building was formerly the Corn Exchange, then the Guildhall. The Ball Inn to its left, once thatched, has been demolished to make way for a Woolworth's.

A Selection of Memories from Chard

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our website to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was, prompted by the photographs in our archive. Here are some from Chard

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

Hello My mum and her family were evacuated to Chard in WW2. My uncle and aunt are always talking about their time there and I would love to hear from anyone also with memories. Kind regards Sandra
