Chester, Cathedral, The Undercroft 1923

More about this scene

Caption for Chester, Cathedral 1923: The great Norman undercroft of Chester Cathedral. As well as its more ancient parts, Chester has the distinction of being the only cathedral since the 15th century to have a detached bell tower built. The Addleshaw Tower was completed in 1974, its construction deemed necessary owing to the unsafe condition of the bell-frame in the central tower.

My parents emigrated to Canada with me in tow in 1956 and I get a lump in my throat, still, when I look at pictures or visit. Such a lot of history in (...Read full memory)

I remember going to Chester Zoo as a child with my parents and grandparents during the 1970s, each visit was really great, except for the hippos who made one of the worst smells I have ever smelt - it was nauseating!
