Chestfield Kent During Ww2

A Memory of Chestfield.

I was born in Bromley, Kent in 1940.My childhood was spent alternating between my mother and father's house called, from memory, either Stafford or Stratford House, on the right hand side proceeding from the Chestfield Swalecliffe railway bridge and my Aunt Florrie's bungalow, under the aforementioned bridge, turning right and her home, 'Dovedale', St John's Road Swalecliffe being on the left.

My mother, Ivy Maud Smith, was killed in the rail crash of August 16th 1944 caused by a deflected V1 rocked destroying the Oak Road bridge. I remember watching a German bomber crash on a local golf course and getting a 'rocket' from the Home Guard for collecting 'souvenirs'. My school was PNEU. Also remember large, pyramid shaped concrete blocks on the beach. Tank traps?

Will add more text and some photos at a later date, should this be of interest to anyone reading my quick, one fingered documentation of a trip down memory lane
