More about this scene
The marshes were a popular haunt of wildfowlers seeking tasty birds and unusual specimens for the taxidermist. About 400 acres of this area were purchased by Dr Sydney Long in 1926. He believed the birds could be best appreciated alive and in their own habitat. He went on to found the Norfolk Wildlife Trust, and this became the first County Nature Reserve in the country.
