Congleton, High Street c.1955

More about this scene
Although Congleton produced the most silk of the two towns, for some reason it was always Macclesfield further north that was known as 'the silk town' – but ribbons (nylon ones these days) are still produced in Congleton. Looking at these old Frith photographs, I am struck by the presence of so many blinds outside shops on sunny days – you never seem to see these today.
