I attended Benfieldside Junior School to around 1963/64. I think the headmaster was Mr Appleby and my teacher Mr Watchman who was a prisoner of war and taught the class some German (which I still remember!) My family emigrated to New Zealand but the stories of the school and the red dust still touch me.
Mum used to go courting with my Dad i Rossi's. I was born in Doncaster in 1974 and i have very fond memories of visiting relatives in Consett in the 1980's xx
my friends mother owned the chippy in the 1950 to 1960 and round the corner was a potato warehouse it was owned by roan attaining father owned it and roan used to deliver the potato's to the shop
I bought my first record in the record shop on Middle Street, around 1964. My father was the Blacksmith and had the Blacksmith's Shop in Consett, near Templetown and used to shoe Shire Horses and other horses there. I remember being lifted up onto the back of a huge Shire Horse when I was about five. I have loved Heavy Horses ever since.
