Cornholme, General View c.1955

More about this scene
An archetypal Pennine industrial landscape is presented in this view of Cornholme, in the deep valley of the River Calder between Burnley and Todmorden. The chimneys of the textile mills fill the valley bottom, alongside the winding railway line and grim terraces of the millworkers' cottages. Above them, the moors watch over, unchanged.
