The corner of Windermere Road and Brighton Road marks the point where this photograph was taken. The empty shop on the left is now occupied by Doble`s motor cycles. The Seeboard shop on the corner of The Avenue is currently Threshers off-licence, whilst on the right the bookshop now houses a video shop. Next to Westminster Bank, Marsh`s cards and artists` shop arrived in 1925.

I spent many a happy year here before enlisting in the RAF (National Service) then in 1953 off to Canada and have been there ever since! Now a proud Canadian! Michael Edwards.
I lived over the Laundrette 1958 to 1968 where my mother was the manageress. I worked at KLM Motors from 1960 to 1966 and worked with Mike Doble while he was repairing car bodywork until he started his own business. Happy days.
My friend Catherine Payne (Chapple) & myself Jennie Brooker (Jennifer Booth) are the 2 figures in front of the Seeboard shop in this picture. We think we are going to school but not sure but I can remember many times crossing the road here and my teenage evenings were spent in the town at the Wimpy or buying chips at the chipshop or at Marlpit Lane Rec.
