Coulsdon, Brighton Road c.1955

More about this scene
Although fifty years have passed the centre of Coulsdon is easily recognisable, although the forthcoming replacement of the Red Lion will dramatically alter appearances. Looking towards the Smitham railway bridge, the United Dairies` building has been replaced by Waitrose. The zebra crossing has disappeared as has the police box, and the four red telephone boxes have been replaced by a single kiosk.
