In 1941 when I was 10 years old we lost our home in the Plymouth blitz. Having been to Crackington before the war on holiday and staying at Baypark Farm (Mr and Mrs Coombs) we arranged to go there again. Living as holiday guests for any length of time was unsustainable so we very very fortunate to be able to share a bungalow with a wonderful couple (Mr and Mrs Henry Knight). In 1943 at the height of the Second World War, I was an evacuee and I stayed with my relatives who lived in Crackingtom Haven. Although I was only 6 years old at the time I have vivid memories of the six months I stayed there. I lived in Penkenna House in 1973, for a few months. I was only about 8 or 9 years old then so I lived with my mum and dad and my younger brother and sister. I think the property was then owned by a Mr Whitehouse who lived in Bude.
