More about this scene

By 1900 some of the College's austerity had been softened by creeper, but it still laboured under the cumbersome name of the Oxford Diocesan Training College for School Masters. It was designed by Joseph Clarke in the style of an Oxford college, with three ranges around a cloister; this was enclosed by a northern arm in 1930. There was a chapel and even a 'practice school' for the intended 92 students (the numbers later much increased). This view of the south front shows well the plain cusped tracery windows and the use Clarke made of chimney stacks to augment the design.
