More about this scene
The 16th-century house on the left still has its original brackets supporting the exposed joists of the first floor. The next house, of the same date, is at right angles to the street with a tall carriage entrance. The late 19th-century shop extension beyond is Towell's fish and chip shop. The wide 18th- century façade with seven windows is The Limes. The shop next door is Len Aldous the saddler. At the top of the hill is Bleak House, a former inn of c1540.
