Christmas Deliveries: If you placed an order on or before midday on Friday 19th December for Christmas delivery it was despatched before the Royal Mail or Parcel Force deadline and therefore should be received in time for Christmas. Orders placed after midday on Friday 19th December will be delivered in the New Year.

More about this scene

The post office and shop survived until about 1995, when the premises were taken over by Weddinghouse, a business selling and hiring wedding dresses and costumes. The post box still stands in the garden of the shop at the corner of Station Road and Woodside Road, but the telephone box, peeping into the left of the photograph, has disappeared.

Adele Avenue/Harmer Green Lane
This photograph actually shows Adele Avenue off to the left and the road going down the Beehive is Harmer Green Lane. Just before the Beehive there is a road off to the right which goes under the railway bridge and passes the Cowper Arms. That is Station Road. I lived in Digswell from around 1950 until 1968. Adele Avenue (Not Station Road!)
The side road (foreground) was one of two streets in Digswell both called Station Road! To remove the confusion, this one was renamed Adele Avenue some time before 1937, after the lady of the only house in the street at that time (behind and to the left of the photographer). Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
