More about this scene
A range of 16th-century houses and cottages descends the hill towards a central crossroads, notably Old Forge, Bowries and Ricksteddle. St Margaret's church has a 13th-century oak chest and 14th-century glass. Wing's Place, a fine 16th-century timber-framed house that was used as a pilgrim's rest house, is now known as Anne of Cleves House, but in reality it has no connection with her. The Old Meeting House was founded in 1698 and is used by Baptists from a wide area. The village is now noted as an art and craft centre. Ditchling Beacon is a famous vantagepoint 813 feet up on the Downs with panoramic views. There are dewponds alongside the road by the Beacon.
