The now vanished Gough Monument, which used to stand in Phoenix Park. The statue's head and sword arm were sawn off in 1944 and the mutilated remains were bombed twice, in 1956 and 1957.

My memory refers to Paddy Mc Closkey who died on 21st December last at the Mater Hospital, Dublin. My quest is to find the grave of his mother- I am assuming she has departed this life- so as Paddy can be buried with her. Paddy was born in 1936 at Ballymaconnelly, Co Antrim to Cissie Mc Closkey. Happy holidays spent in Tram Terrace, Dalkey with the Ryan family 1946-1968. Saving for home and marriage interrupted travel but our holidays resumed in 1970 and we still try to get over every year. For a 9 year old boy from Edinburgh the travel arrangements for our family holiday to Dublin in 1958 were quite an adventure. Embarkation on the steamer at the Broomielaw in Glasgow and our billet turned out to be in the hold along with up to a 100 or so others.
