I attended the C of E Junior School in High Street earl Shilton opposite the old Working Mens Club there were about 7 classrooms the Headmistress was a woman cannot remember her name two teachers I remember were Mrs Sidey and Mrs Saddington her son was in my class his name was Christopher, there was an entranc from almeys Lane into the girls playground and the main entrance from High street, the boundary walls were of rocks and slate and behind the school was the old church mansion, duties I remember doing in school were filling the coke bins from the big pile of cock in the playground and filling the inkwells when it was your turn being the milk monitor on occasions, one teacher a lady was Scottish and she would make us recite a different times table everyday till we knew it by heart, i also remember the slides we used to make in the winter right across the playground and how the toilets would freeze up in the winter as they were outside in the playground, I attended there from 1949 to 1955 when I went to Heathfield Seconadary Modern School up in Bellvue Road.I lived in Keats Lane in a row of old cottages just pest Ladkins Shop opposite Ladkins Shoe factory, till I was 12 and then we moved to Alexander Avenue where I stayed pretty much until My wife and I Emigrated to Australia in 1972. some happy memories from that school.
