The Royal Marine Hotel on the left has now succumbed to a towering ten storey block of flats, Metropole Court, one of three architectural disasters along the sea front. Most of the Victorian terrace houses beyond survive; this section of the promenade ends at The Redoubt, another Napoleonic fort.
