Visits To Grandma In Alfred Street,Abertwysswg.
A Memory of Ebbw Vale.
Well, the sixties and early seventies, really. We used to have a holiday with grandparents George and Ethel Hind. The house had been in the family for some years from Grandma's side, the Jones' - I used to love it! Ethel had an old range and a cooker and the Sunday roasts were heaven with the blackest gravy on earth. I used to love her shriek when sheep got in the font garden! Grandma Ethel was tiny, she told me about her baptism at the chapel behind and of running wet to get changed at home. Grandad was a miner, ex army, and a lay preacher. We used to go whinnberrying, visiting relatives(Uncle Nezer?), walking and eating the vast quantities put before us - Welsh hospitality. Now both my parents are gone,Ted and Margaret Hind, and I am tracing the family. Can anyone help? George and Ethel were in India with the army, which regiment? Dad was born there. They had a daughter, Dorothy, two other sons, one of whom Paul was a butcher locally.
I have very few family photos and documents so I have a challenge ahead. All help gratefully received!
