This village's name means 'the settlement by the church', possibly in this case a church that was first founded i pre-Saxon times. Here we see the present church partially hidden amongst the trees. The pump in the foreground, with its tiled roof, was built in 1874. Notice the sign on the wall, which reads 'To Ferry'.
