More about this scene
George Heriot, goldsmith and banker to James VI, founded the hospital. He was immortalised as Jingling Geordie in Walter Scott's 'Fortunes of Nigel'. Construction began on the hospital in 1628, but it was not completed until 1693 when it saw service as a military hospital.
