More about this scene
Egerton stands at the edge of the Weald on a high greensand ridge. The church is 15th-century and built of Kentish ragstone, and its gargoyled tower is a landmark for miles around. The George Inn was begun in 1576 during the reign of Elizabeth 1st. In its original form it was a farm dwelling with a barn and outbuildings, but has been added to and altered down the years.
