I grew up in Elmstead Market moving there when I was 18 months old and left in 1965 when I was 8. I went to Elmstead School where Vera Norfolk was my first teacher and the headteacher was Mr Clegg. Vera's sister Muriel ran the village shop and they lived in a little cottage at the crossroads on School Road/Colchester Road. My name was Margaret Locke when I went to school here from 1955 to 1961. The teachers were Miss Webb (head teacher), Mrs Wringe and Miss Vera Norfolk. I have fond memories of Elmstead and was christened in St Pauls church and married at St Lawrence church 40 years ago next month. My great grandfather William Henry Parkins ran The Bowling Green from the 1920s until his death in 1953. I am aware that the Pub has now closed and the last time I visited (6-7 years ago) it was being converted into a private home. I would like to hear from anyone who remembers my great grandfather or any other members of the Parkins family.
