High Street And Warren Golf Links
A Memory of Eltham.
Have written memoirs of boyhood of my 2 brothers and myself in Falconwood, Eltham and Welling. Did local newspaper rounds for Hutton's at Falconwood Station and carried his moneybags to Martin's Bank, Eltham High Street through the golf-links several times without problems; delivering papers in the dark near the cemetery was more scary! Later used to frequent the many pubs in High Street and learned to dance above Montague Burton's, to Victor Sylvestor records and Eddie, calling "Slow, slow, quick-quick, slow". On my way to Eltham Music House I met Dinah Hewin and fell instantly in love, but never saw her again (believe she lived in Westmount Road). Open-air swimming pool at Eltham Park was a favourite spot, plus Shephardsleas and Oxley woods. That was long before the motorway, of course. Anyone want to swop yarns?
