Exmouth, The Clock Tower 1898

More about this scene
The clock tower on Exmouth's sea front is a good place to begin any exploration of the resort. The foundation stone was laid on 15 September 1897 by Lady Gertrude Rolle in celebration of Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee; the site was donated by the Hon Mark Rolle. Today it is the centrepiece of the town's Flagpole Memorial, opened in 1995 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. This newer memorial bears the flags of many nations and a call that all should live in peace.
