Memories Of Working At Ultra Tv Factory Fareham Hants.

A Memory of Fareham.

My name is Rosalind....I was sixteen when I started work at the Ultra Tv factory in Gosport Rd, Fareham.
Well many years have past by, my memory is a bit vague of remembering peoples names who I worked with at Ultra, but I did have a best friend called Margaret Brown, we both worked on the television ensemble line, and as the parts came down the conveying belt we would take them off onto our desk to solder on the resisters, then put them back to travel on to the next person.
I loved every minute of it, we never had any fallen out or nastiness at the factory, we sang while we worked and played tricks on each other.....at that time the fashion was to have a "Vanity Box" and we all took them to work, so what was the favorite thing to do, was fill some of the girls boxes up with all soldering droppings through the day, so at knock off time we would find our boxes much heavier than when we arrived at work, and what with us all rushing out of the factory when the bell went, we would have to take them home with us, I wonder if anyone else would remember this?

I remember lovely coach trips that Ultra use to put on for the workers, the fashion at the time, I remember waring my Jack and Jill skirt with my Vanity Box "very happy times" .
I am now living in Australia with my husband Alan, " who I met at the Fareham Youth Centre" and our three son's, we are known as some of the "Ten Pound Poms"
Alas our dear friend Margaret who I worked with at Ultra, has passed away, she also emigrated with her husband Eddie and two daughters to Australia.
Well that's a little of my Fareham memories, I hope that someone out there remembers and worked at Ultra reads my story.
