More about this scene
When local landowner Colonel Tomline promoted a railway and a new dock in Felixstowe, he hoped to be able to compete with the port of Harwich, across the Orwell Estuary. The dock did not succeed until long after his death, but the railway meantime stimulated the development of Felixstowe as a seaside resort.
