More about this scene
The roofs of the nave and south aisle are so low that a first glance at St Michael's often leaves visitors thinking that the building is semi-derelict. The chancel, with its high-pitched roof, dates from the early 13th century, though some parts of the church are thought to be 12th-century. The aisles were added in the 14th century and a chantry endowed in 1331. During the 19th century the north aisle was extended, a vestry built and the east end rebuilt.
